UPDATE 21 JUNE 2022
Swift Cooker Update
Resources Safety & Health Queensland have provided the following update in relation to the supply of Swift 500 Series Cookers.
New vehicles: Disconnected and capped.
From a Gas safety and Gas compliance perspective, Resources Safety & Health Queensland (RSHQ) believes it is acceptable for dealers and manufacturers of recreational vehicles to continue to supply vehicles with Swift 500 Series cookers installed where:
- The gas supply to the appliance is isolated, disconnected, and capped by the holder of a QLD gas work licence (GWL);
- A warning label stating “DO NOT USE” is attached to the appliance gas isolation valve; and
- A certificate is issued by the GWL advising that the Swift 500 Series cooker (serial No#……..) has been disconnected and the gas supply pipe capped. The appliance is not to be reconnected until further notice.
Gas safety: This action would provide a safe outcome as the potential for gas leakage from the appliance has been mitigated, the appliance is disconnected from the gas supply.
Gas Compliance: This action would not contravene requirements for gas appliances to be approved for supply, installation or use under s731 of the Petroleum and Gas (Production and Safety) Act 2004
- RSHQ have not been notified that AGA6488G has been suspended or cancelled.
- At the time of this email the Swift 500 Series cooker approval AGA6488G is current.
Note: this is from a gas safety and compliance position, there may be additional requirements under consumer law in relation to product that can’t be used after purchase.
Used vehicles: (Inspected and certified for resale or change of ownership): Turned off, labelled and GSCC identifies do not use turned off.
- Gas system to be inspected for compliance and all appliances tested for correct and safe operation.
- Particular attention to Swift 500 series cookers and gas leakage. Gas tightness to be carried with lid up and lid down. Gas detector used around internal piping when appliance operating.
- Owner/seller advised that all Swift 500 series cookers to be turned off at isolation valve and labelled ‘DO NOT USE’
- Gas Compliance Certificates issued should be marked “do not use cooker”, the appliance turned off and a DO NOT USE label attached.
General public enquiry: Turn off do not use.
- Check to see if your appliance is 500 series.
- Turn off the appliance at the isolation valve, Do not use any 500 series cookers until more information is available.
- Awaiting further details from Swift Appliance Group.
CTIAQ recommends all members adhere to these instructions until more information is provided from Swift Appliance Group or RSHQ in relation to this matter.

Owners of caravans and recreational vehicles should check if their cooking appliance is a Swift 500 series appliance and avoid use until the extent of the issue is known and documented.
-
The gas supply to the appliance can be isolated at the gas isolation valve, to allow the electrical element and other gas appliances to be used safely.
-
If you smell gas, turn off the gas immediately at the cylinders and contact a gas work licence holder to check the gas system and all gas appliances for safe and correct operation.
