If you’re hooking up and heading off with your furry friends in tow, you might want to consider these tips to ensure you’re keeping your pets cool while caravanning:
Be Prepared
Make sure you have everything you need before you go Caravanning with your Pets.
There are some great products on the market, like pet cooling beds, dog boots, and of course, make sure your pet has fresh, cool water easily available. If walking your pet, consider heading out early morning or late afternoon so the ground isn’t too hot and it’s a bit cooler (for both of you).
Travelling
No one likes to be stuck in the car for hours. Take a break often so you and your four-legged friend can stretch your legs and get some fresh air. Plan ahead and know where you can stop along the way.
Never leave your pet alone in your car or ute. Even when the windows are down or the car is parked in the shade, these precautions are just not enough to stop your pet from overheating. One study found that when the outside temperature is a mild 22 degrees, the inside of a car can reach 47 degrees in just an hour.
SHADE
While finding the perfect camping spot, consider parking near some trees so your pet will have some shade. Plan ahead and look at the park maps or camping grounds to ensure you have a spot in the shade.
There are lots of Pet Friendly Caravan Parks now that are happy to welcome you and your pets all year round and have some great facilities, like off leash areas and parks that are close to dog-friendly beaches so you can take a walk and cool off in the water.
CARAVAN COOLING
Our friends at Caframo know how to keep things cool with their Sirocco fans and have some helpful tips for caravan cooling like cooking outside, finding shade, and installing some fans. Aircon is fantastic for keeping cool, but it is also a major drain on power and resources. A more sustainable and portable option is a fan. The Sirocco II by SEEKR has a unique gimballed design that allows complete 360° airflow and has an ultra-quiet, long-life motor with a low power draw. It’s the ideal companion while cooking, playing cards, and keeping your pets cool.
