Studies have shown that getting out in nature and amongst the trees and fresh air can significantly reduce stress and anxiety. That’s why caravanning is great for your mental health. Here are some reasons why:

The Great Outdoors

As mentioned, getting outside and breathing in that fresh air does wonders for the mind and body. Parking your caravan amongst the trees, or by the sea, whether at a caravan park or somewhere secluded off the beaten track, you’re sure to find some peace and quiet to take some deep breaths and soak up the serenity.

Connecting with family & friends

Packing up your caravan and hitting the road is a great way to connect with your friends & family. Get away from work, home, screens, sometimes mobile reception, and away from any distractions. Caravanning with kids and as a family makes creates life-long memories. Play board games, read a book, take a walk or swim. Sit around a campfire with mates and ask how they are doing. Start a conversation about looking after your metal health, share how you are feeling and invite your friends to do the same. There are some great resources on the Mental Health Australia website.

Digital Detox

A digital detox is always a good idea, but even more so when caravanning. You know the saying, ‘GO WHERE THE WIFI IS WEAK’… give yourself a few days off social media, without checking emails and news updates. It will all be waiting for you when you return home. Your mental health will thank you for it.

An active Lifestyle

When you’re away caravanning, you are more likely to be more active. Take a long walk, go for a bike ride or have a swim in the ocean. There’s also activities like fishing, surfing, or paddle boarding. Being active will release endorphins and help relieve stress.

If you or someone you know needs help you can contact Lifeline on 13 11 14 – 24 hours a day 7 days a week.
