It can be overwhelming and confusing when buying at a caravan show if you don’t know what you’re looking for. Here are some things to consider before you hit a show!
what exactly do I want?
With so many Caravan Dealerships and Manufactures on display at the one time, buying a caravan at a Show can be quite daunting to say the least.
One of the most important questions to ask yourself before heading off to a Caravan Show is – What exactly do I want? There are so many options available to us, that working out what it is we want can be half the battle.
Before attending the Show, put together a wish list of features and inclusions that you want with your van, and identify very clearly what the use of the van will be, whether it will be on-road or off- road.
The dealership
Understanding the business of the Caravan Dealer and their reputation is another very important factor when choosing the right van… one that is quite often overlooked. Reputation it extremely important, as this will give you a great indication of the customer service and support you will receive should anything go wrong with your van in the future.
Be mindful of where the dealership is based also, as it is more convenient to drive 5 minutes down the road to a dealership than 3 hours. The benefit of buying local also is that often you are dealing with a smaller family business rather that a massive corporation and there is certainly a lot of merit in that!
construction and size
Construction technique is another thing to be mindful of. There are 3 main techniques – Frame, Timber Frame and Fibreglass Sandwich Panel. Having an idea of which frame you want for your van will help narrow down your choices.
Another thing is the size of the van, which is often dictated by the size of the towing vehicle, whether it be the car you currently own or something you are looking to purchase in the future, that will be able to manage the van you are looking to buy.
Final Decision
Most importantly, it is knowing what you want, as this will make it easier for a dealership or manufacturer to sharpen their pencil when it comes down to it, if they know exactly what they must deliver and when they have to deliver it.
Take your time and don’t be rushed – a caravan is a big purchase, you want to get it right.
