We asked our Sunseeker travellers where their favourite camping spots are. Some were reluctant to share their secret caravanning destinations, and others couldn’t pick just one.
Here are some first hand recommendations that you may like to put on your caravanning to-visit list. Tried and tested from Sunseekers…
NOTCH POINT, QUEENSLAND

It’s easy to see why Jenny is loving Notch Point. A free campground located between Mackay and Rockhampton where you can park by the beach and under the palm trees.
The trip in to Notch Point can be a little rough and rugged, but well worth it once you’re relaxing in the sun. Swimming is definitely at your own risk as the water is known for saltwater crocs and sharks.
Voted in the top 5 best camping spots in Queensland, put Notch Point on your list.

JAMES PRICE POINT, WESTERN AUSTRALIA
Sue recommends James Price Point in Broome in Western Australia. Roughly 60km from Broome, off the Cape Leveque Road. Again, a bit of a bumpy ride in but well worth the journey to this stunning destination.
Beach camping or you can set up on the hard red rock at the base of the cliffs, you’re sure to find an amazing spot. People love this spot because it’s free, and there is so much room which means you can find yourself an epic camp spot without being too close to your neighbors.

LEICHHARDT FALLS, QUEENSLAND

Located along the edges of Leichhardt Falls, the campsites are suitable for fully self-sufficient travellers and offers a beautiful natural landscape to explore. There are cliff tops that provide an uninterrupted bird’s eye view of the water below, epic sunsets and plenty of wallabies who hop past to say hi.
Leichhardt Falls is dog friendly and fires are permitted.
The falls are 77km easy of Burketown on Burketown Normanton Road in Stokes.
Thanks Jason for the recommendation!
CAPE YORK, QUEENSLAND
Many Sunseekers adventure up to the northern most point of Australia and explore Cape York. Unwind, connect with nature, and explore all that this magical place has to offer.
The culture in FNQ is a fascinating mix of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander, and the local communities have rich traditions dating back tens of thousands of years.
Cape York has a range of accommodation and camping ideal for couples, families and groups to relax, unwind and recharge.

Parachilna Gorge, Flinders Ranges, South Australia

“So many free camps here and just beautiful and when we went, not crowded at all. Walk amongst the gorge, trees and ranges, emus, roos and birds. One of our favs!” – Glenn Young
The Parachilna Gorge is one of the most scenic gorges in Outback South Australia. Besides the gorge, you’ll see some amazing lookouts, landscapes, and an abundance of wildlife.
